Japanese Steelmakers Raise Scrap Metal Purchasing Prices
Japanese steelmakers raise scrap purchasing price
Following Japan’s Tokyo Steel’s announced intention to increase its scrap purchasing price, some other domestic mills have raised their prices by ¥2,000~3,000/ton.
Currently, in the Kanto region, the base price of H2 scrap is around ¥17,500~18,000/ton. The estimation is that crude steel production in the Kanto region in December will decrease by 126,000 tons to 415,000 tons compared to the same period last year.
However, domestic mills are not actively making purchases since they do not have overstock problems. In terms of export markets, conditions still remain uncertain.
