Due to electricity shortages, global ferro-chrome supply can not meet demand. Although current price and demand have eased, it is expected that the price will climb further by over 10 percent in the fourth quarter.

Ferro-chrome demand showed little buying enthusiasm in June in South Africa and now supply and demand have balanced. After the ferro-chrome price was hiked up sharply in the spring, suppliers believed that the price would then fall. Actually, the falling only happened in the past two-three weeks, and very briefly.

It is reported that Hernic, the Cr-Fe manufacturer in South Africa, indicated that the price will rise over 10 percent in the fourth quarter. South African export prices of ferro-chrome to Europe have soared to a record US$2.05/pound, compared to just US$1.92/pound in the second quarter.
