United Kingdom (UK) Scrap Metal Exports Down in 2007

UK scrap export totaled 6.012 million tons in 2007, decreased by 18.9 percent than 7.416 million tons in the previous year.

Spain, the leading offshore destination for UK scrap, decreased its purchases by 3 percent to 1.589 million tons from the tonnage acquired the same month of last year. Turkey took 1.54 million tons, down by 37.5 percent from a year earlier.

Shipments to France totaled 492,000 tons, up by 32.2 percent against the same time of last year. Moreover, Portugal took 485,000 tons, Pakistan took 331,000 tons and Egypt took 308,000 tons.
